SIG L1 and Teacher Education (SIG TE)
SIG TE Virtual Seminar:
Looking ahead – Educating Language Teachers in an Era of Uncertainty
The SIG-seminar on language teacher education in times of uncertainty and social distance, hosted by Yael Poyas and by Elizabeth KY Loh (Oranim College of Education in Israel and The University of Hong Kong in Hong Kong SAR), took place (virtually) on June 2nd, 2021. SIG Teacher Education (TE) focuses on exploring and researching aspects of language and literature teacher education.
SIG TE members are interested in cutting edge research on approaches and models shown to be effective in processes of teacher education of Language and Literature teachers; integration of media and technology in teacher education of Language and Literature teachers; and education of teachers as agents of social justice, multiculturalism, national and cultural memory.
Activities - 2019-2021
SIG TE was quite active in 2017 conference in Tallinn; however, this was not the picture on Lisbon conference, 2019. The SIG's voice was not heard, and issues of teacher education were dealt with sporadically in sessions of other SIGs. As a result, we, Yael Poyas and Elizabeth Loh, volunteered to coordinate the SIG and to try and reactivate research cooperation.
During the summer of 2019, we distributed a questionnaire to learn about members’ interests. We have decided to focus on research of effective approaches in processes of teacher education of Language and Literature teachers.
We were very sorry that the Coronavirus interfered with our plans to hold a joint seminar with SIG ROLE on "Memory Culture in Literature Education and Teacher Education" in May 2020. In June 2021 we had an interesting seminar on preparing teachers to teach L1 in times of uncertainty and social distance.
13th ARLE conference in Nicosia, June 2022We are now looking ahead to ARLE conference in Nicosia, June 2022. We will be happy to receive suggestions for special SIG symposia.
Last September there were 34 active members who responded to the questionnaire. If you want to join us, please let us know by e-mail.
